Humanin 10mg
Mitochondria-encoded peptide researched for cellular protection, energy metabolism, neuroprotection, and healthy ageing.
What is HMN10?
Humanin is a naturally occurring peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome — specifically within the 16S ribosomal RNA gene. It was first identified through its ability to suppress neuronal cell death associated with Alzheimer's disease. As a mitochondria-derived peptide (MDP), Humanin represents a new class of signalling molecules that communicate cellular stress states and regulate survival pathways across tissues.
Key Features
- Endogenous mitochondria-encoded peptide with broad cytoprotective activity
- Neuroprotective via suppression of amyloid-beta and BAX-mediated apoptosis
- Activates JAK2/STAT3 and AMPK survival signalling pathways
- High purity ≥98% verified by RP-HPLC and mass spectrometry
Mechanism of Action
Humanin exerts its effects through multiple receptor-mediated pathways. It binds to the tripartite receptor complex comprising CNTFR, WSX-1, and gp130, activating JAK2/STAT3 signalling to promote cell survival. It also interacts with IGFBP-3 and BAX to inhibit apoptosis. In metabolic contexts, Humanin activates AMPK and improves insulin sensitivity. Its neuroprotective effects are linked to suppression of amyloid-beta toxicity and mitochondrial membrane stabilisation.
